Why I Test Every Experience Before Recommending It
how the Tafza experience was redesigned after field scouting, highlighting our quality standards and presenting three excursion formats adapted to different traveler preferences.

Scouting Tafza: Designing an Authentic Experience, Tested on the Ground
Before offering any experience to travelers, I believe in one essential rule: it must be tested on the ground. Not imagined, not sold from a desk, but lived in real conditions. That is exactly what I did in Tafza, a small village in the Haut Atlas, during a recent scouting mission aimed at evaluating, structuring, and improving a local experience centered around trekking and pottery.
As a Guest Experience Manager, my role goes far beyond logistics. It is about understanding rhythm, flow, human interaction, and the small details that transform a simple activity into a meaningful memory.
Why Scouting Matters
Scouting is not just a visit. It is a deep observation of reality: timing, accessibility, safety, comfort, and authenticity. In Tafza, I walked the same paths future guests would take, shared meals with locals, observed artisans at work, and tested the full journey from departure to return.
This process allowed me to identify what truly works—and what needs adjustment. More importantly, it helped me understand that not all travelers want the same balance between physical activity and cultural immersion. From this insight, a new structure was born.
One Experience, Three Ways to Live It
Following the scouting, the Tafza experience was redesigned into three distinct formats, each responding to different preferences, energy levels, and travel styles. All three formulas share the same values: authenticity, respect for the local community, and genuine human connection. What changes is the focus.
Formula 1 – Trekking Immersion & Pottery Discovery
Trekking: 3 hours | Pottery workshop: 1 hour
Duration: Full day
Lunch included
This formula is designed for travelers who love nature and movement. The day begins with a guided trek through the landscapes surrounding Tafza. The walk offers breathtaking views, moments of calm, and a direct connection with rural life in the Atlas Mountains.
The pace is moderate and adapted to the group, making it accessible while still immersive. After the trek, guests enjoy a traditional lunch with a local family—simple, generous, and authentic. The experience ends with a one-hour pottery introduction, offering a first contact with the village’s main craft.
Ideal for: active travelers, hikers, and nature lovers.
Formula 2 – Cultural Walk & Pottery Immersion
Trekking: 1 hour | Pottery workshop: 3 hours
Duration: Full day
Lunch included
This option favors cultural depth over physical intensity. A short and easy walk introduces guests to the village environment, daily life, and surroundings without fatigue.
The heart of the experience is the extended pottery workshop. Over three hours, guests work closely with local artisans, discovering traditional techniques and engaging in real exchange. Time slows down, conversations flow, and the experience becomes deeply human.
Lunch with a local family completes the day, reinforcing the feeling of being welcomed rather than hosted.
Ideal for: culture seekers, creative travelers, couples, and slow travel enthusiasts.
Formula 3 – Pottery Workshop Only
Pottery workshop: 4 hours
Duration: Half day
Lunch not included (available on request)
This half-day experience is fully dedicated to craftsmanship. Guests spend four hours immersed in the pottery workshop, learning, practicing, and sharing moments with local artisans.
It is the most focused format, perfect for travelers with limited time or a strong interest in traditional crafts. Lunch is not included by default but can be arranged on request.
Ideal for: art lovers, short-stay travelers, and hands-on cultural explorers.
Tested, Structured, and Built on Trust
Each of these formulas was tested and adjusted based on real conditions observed during the scouting. Timing was refined, flows were improved, and potential friction points were identified and addressed.
This approach ensures that what is offered is not only attractive on paper, but realistic, smooth, and respectful of both guests and locals.
Our Philosophy in One Sentence
Live Tafza with confidence: every experience is tested on the ground to ensure authenticity, balance, and genuine connection.
Final Thoughts
Tafza is not about ticking boxes or rushing through activities. It is about slowing down, choosing what matters most to you, and living an experience that feels true. By offering three distinct formulas, travelers are free to choose how they want to connect—with nature, with people, or with craftsmanship.
For me, this scouting mission confirmed one thing: when experiences are carefully tested and thoughtfully designed, they don’t just meet expectations—they create memories.
